My work is currently inspired by the plants that are viewed from my studio window cranesbills, forget-me-nots, phlox, verbenas, and periwinkles to name a few. They are a constant source of wonder – not only for their beauty but also because they provoke memories of my childhood walks in gentle summer rain collecting floral specimens to press and draw, or sitting on lawns and making long daisy chains.
Hand formed precious metal flowers and leaf forms are reduced to their simplest outline shapes icons and then are used to create recognizable graphic, pieces of jewellery that are elegant, joyful, and fun to wear. The jaunty curvilinear lines of the flower and leaf chains are systematically linked together, echoing those cheerful celebratory trinkets we have all made at some time or other the daisy chain.
Simple brooches and proud sculptural rings act as bold statement pieces, while the statuesque longstem earrings, which dangle and sway when worn, reflect a simple and elegant aesthetic. All pieces are contemporary and thoroughly modern versions of those gentle jewels worn long ago.
